Dr. Danny E. Wheat began his service on the Abilene Independent School Board in 2002. He and his wife, Betsi, have lived in Abilene since 1986, and have two children, Jenny and Philip, both graduates of Abilene High School. Both Dr. and Mrs. Wheat are active in PTA, Volunteers in Public Schools, and other school organizations in which their children participate. In addition, Dr. Wheat has served on the board of Abilene Junior/Senior League and is active as an adult leader with the Boy Scouts of America. Dr. Wheat and his family are members and serve our Lord through First Baptist Church, Abilene. He serves as a volunteer for Love and Care Ministries.

Dr. Wheat graduated from Galena Park High School, located in the Houston metroplex, in 1974. Undergraduate studies were taken at San Jacinto Junior College and College of the Ozarks. Dr. Wheat earned his Bachelor of Medical Sciences in 1979, and his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine in 1984 from the California College of Podiatric Medicine located in San Francisco, California. He completed his internship at San Francisco General Hospital in 1984 and his residency at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Waco in 1986. In 1986, Dr. Wheat, along with his brother, established Abilene Foot Care Associates. P.C., serving as President.

Dr. Wheat is on the staff of Hendrick Medical Center, Baylor Extended Care Hospital, Abilene Regional Medical Center, Medical Mall Surgical Center, Eastland Memorial Hospital, and Coronado Nursing Center. He is board certified Fellow of the American Academy of Wound Management as a Certified Wound Specialist. In addition, Dr. Wheat serves on the Physician Advisory Committee at the West Texas Rehabilitation Center, the Musculoskeletal Department Committee at Hendrick Medical Center and the Department of Surgery Committee at Abilene Regional Medical Center.
