Susan Mele

Dr. Mele was elected on November 5, 2019. She retired from Bedford County Public Schools in 2019 where she served as the principal of Stewartsville Elementary School and in the School Board Office as the Director of Elementary Programs and Title I. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Radford University and both her Master’s Degree and Doctorate from Virginia Tech. Dr. Mele has been an educator for over 30 years as a regular classroom teacher in grades K-5, a special education teacher in grades K-8, a special education coordinator, and held various administrative positions. In addition to her duties as an administrator and director in the school division, Dr. Mele worked closely with the First Lady of Virginia, Dorothy McAuliffe, and served at the state level as a member of The Council for Bridging the Nutritional Divide to combat childhood hunger throughout the state. She currently resides in Goodview with her husband, Kevin.
