Adair County R-1 School District
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Published – March 6, 2024
Adair County R-1 School District has adopted LGBTQ+ regulation measures and resources into their district policy. Adopted on November 24, 2020, the district passed the P 2115 Transgender Student Board Policy, which states:
“Transgender students may select a first name and pronoun that more closely matches their gender identity. This chosen name shall be used by District staff to communicate verbally and electronically other than in official school records. Changes of name shall not be permitted to exceed one name change per year. Gender markers on unofficial District forms and related documents will reflect the student’s gender identity.”
Alongside a permitted name change Policy 2115 will allow transgender students the option “of using the gender-neutral restroom, the restroom designated for their biological sex, or their self-identified gender” and the ability to “dress in the manner of their gender identity”.
Page two of Policy 2115 identifies further rights of transgender students within extracurricular activities. Trans males, or those who have been born a female and chose to identify as a male, may participate on boys’ athletic teams. Further, in regards to hormone treatment, the policy outlines that:
“Trans females (male to female) may continue to compete on a boys’ team, but may not compete on a girls’ team until one year of documented medical hormone treatment and/or suppression is completed. To maintain eligibility, a trans female student will thereafter provide medical documentation that the appropriate hormones are being maintained.”
On the district’s website, there is a link provided for middle-school students to access the Library database research resources. Another link is displayed in partnership with Teen Health & Wellness and contains articles that provide content on topics such as mental health, suicide, diversity, sexuality, social health, and LGBTQ+ issues.
