Akron Public Schools is located in Akron, Ohio which is a suburb of Cleveland. APS has an enrollment of nearly 21,300 students with a total of 46 schools in operation. Akron is famous for being the birthplace of NBA Superstar LeBron James.

APS has mandated that all students, teachers, faculty members, visitors, and family members wear a mask while inside school buildings for the entirety of the 2021-22 school year. This mandate is in effect for every individual regardless of vaccination status.

APS has implemented Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in all that they do. The district has put an emphasis on hiring their teachers and staff members not based on qualifications or experience, but rather if the candidates are diverse enough. According to the district website, “Each of us has a legitimate expectation to have a barrier-free learning environment counteracting the contemporary and historical impact of bias, prejudice and discrimination which for generations has produced a predictability of learning outcomes based on race, ethnicity, class, socioeconomics, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, diverse language fluency, religion, and cognitive/physical ability.”
