Ames Community School District
Ames Community School District is located in Ames, Iowa. The district is located in the same city as Iowa State University. ACSD has a total of 8 schools in operation with an enrollment of nearly 5,000 students.
ACSD is forcing all students, staff, and faculty to wear masks for the entirety of the 2021-22 school year regardless of vaccination status.
ACSD has an Equity Statement that says, “The purpose of the Equity Office is to help Ames Community School District (ACSD) cultivate a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and equitable school community. The overall goal of the Equity Office is to help lead the District efforts to cultivate our schools into an equitable institution by identifying, addressing, and eliminating the barriers that create (in)equities in learning for all students.” The ACSD is also using the 13 guiding principles of the Black Lives Matter Movement as the outline for how they are going to mentor students overall. Among those 13 guiding principles are Empathy and Black Villages. Empathy is defined as “one’s ability to connect with others by building relationships built on mutual trust and understanding.” While Black Villages is defined as “the disruption of western nuclear family dynamics and a return to the ‘collective village’ that care for each other.”
