Plano Independent School District

2700 West 15th StreetPlano, Texas 75075

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The Plano Independent School District covers the entire city of Plano, TX. The district enrolls 53,952 students, with almost 4,000 full-time teachers on staff.

Texas has banned Critical Race Theory from being taught in public classrooms. Despite pressure from the CDC, Texas has also banned local school districts and boards from mandating masks in schools.

The Plano ISD released its revised Covid health and safety protocols for the upcoming fall semester in August of 2021. Covid positive patients will have to quarantine at home and large-attendance events will not be allowed for the first 9 weeks. Despite pressure from district parents, masks will be recommended but not required for attendance.

Members of the Plano ISD Board of Trustees have been vocally opposed to the teaching of Critical Race Theory. In July of 2021, Trustee Cody Weaver led a two-hour seminar to teach parents how to identify and prevent critical race theory from being taught in schools.
