According to U.S. News & World Report, Red Lake Schools only has “18% of elementary students [which] tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 18% tested at or above that level for math.” Additionally, “24% of middle school students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 13% tested at or above that level for math…. And 28% of high school students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 9% tested at or above that level for math.”

District spending is around $20,000 per student. However, USA TODAY states that regardless of the “relatively high” finances, students deal with a variety of obstacles to achieving academic success.

USA TODAY also reports that only 5.9% of adults living in the district have a bachelor’s degree, compared to statewide bachelor’s degree rates of 35.4%. 

 

Red Lake Schools, also known as Red Lake Independent School District #38, is located in Red Lake, Minnesota. The district educates approximately 1,526 students within nine educational facilities.
