WPS has gained national attention for putting unvaccinated teachers on unpaid leave. As a result of this cruel act, a teacher has filed a lawsuit against the district. The lawsuit says that in addition to the unpaid leave, he’s also barred from having contact or communications with any WPS student or staff members without approval from human resources. A separate motion was filed asking for an injunction preventing the district from enforcing that communication ban, arguing it is unconstitutional and a violation of free speech rights.

As of Oct. 18, 26 staff members were placed on unpaid leave, which is set to run through the end of the school year before the situation is reevaluated. “WPS is reviewing the lawsuit and denies any wrongdoing,” the district said in a statement. “All decisions were made to support the health and safety of the WPS community and to ensure the continuation of ‘in person’ learning with as few disruptions as possible.”
