EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Wood County Schools is located in Parkersburg, West Virginia. The district has 29 total schools in operation with over 12,200 students enrolled.

WCS had originally voted to give parents the freedom of choice when it comes to their children’s health, however, the district quickly walked that decision back and has mandated masks. The mandate requires students, staff, and visitors to wear a mask while inside school buildings, regardless of vaccination status.

The WCS Board of Education came forward with a resolution of Equity. The statement says “The Wood County Board of Education believes that it is incumbent on the Wood County Board of Education to educate our students and community about racism and injustices of all marginalized communities, and is committed to continuously improve our system to be more inclusive and equitable for all students. The Wood County Board of Education vows to make decisions with a deliberate awareness of impediments to learning faced by students of color and/or diverse cultural, linguistic or socio-economic backgrounds.”
